| Abstract: | Infants who are born prematurely may experience developmental delays and impairments during infancy and beyond. Those who are born at extremely low birthweight face the greatest challenges. Many families could benefit from early intervention services through their local Part C of Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) programs, but families often do not know how to access these services following discharge from the hospital. The InReach program, developed through the Early Intervention Research Institute at Utah State University and local hospitals, sought to facilitate the transition home from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the hospital and the Part C early intervention program by fostering parenting strengths and by linking families to these services prior to their discharge from the hospital. |
