| Abstract (English): | The Peruvian Medical Student Scientific Society (SOCIMEP) is a national association of medical students, the most recognized and the oldest in Peru, which has as one of its pillars to promote scientific research. The objective of the present research was to determine the participation of women on SOCIMEP boards of directors. A retrospective cohort study was carried out; the sample consisted of 321 members of the board of directors during the period 1993-2020. To identify the gender of the members, this was categorized as male or female by first names and, in case of doubt, the names and surnames were searched in the web pages of academic, scientific or governmental institutions, as well as on free-access social networks. It was found that women represented 33.60% of managers and that this increased over the years. Likewise, it was observed that the managerial position with the lowest participation of women was presidency (5/28; 17.90%), followed by fiscal (6/21; 22.22%) and CPC (Permanent Scientific Committee: 4/17; 23.53%). On the contrary, the position of secretary was the one with the highest participation of women (16/27; 55.55%). It is concluded that female participation increased over the years; however, this representation within the SOCIMEP is still low. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | La Sociedad Científica Médico-Estudiantil Peruana (SOCIMEP) es la asociación nacional de estudiantes de medicina más reconocida y antigua del Perú, la cual tiene como uno de sus pilares impulsar y fomentar la investigación científica. El objetivo de la investigación fue determinar la participación de las mujeres en consejos directivos de la SOCIMEP. Se realizó un estudio de cohorte retrospectivo; la muestra estuvo conformada por 321 integrantes de los consejos directivos durante el período 1993- 2020. Para identificar el género de los directivos, este fue categorizado en varones y mujeres por los nombres de pila y en caso de dudas se ingresaron los nombres y apellidos a páginas de instituciones académicas, científicas o gubernamentales en Internet, así como en redes sociales de acceso libre. Se encontró que las mujeres representaban el 33,60% de los directivos y que esta participación se incrementaba con el pasar de los años. Asimismo, se observó que el cargo directivo con menor participación de mujeres fue presidencia (5/28; 17,9%), seguido por fiscalía (6/21; 22,22%) y Comité Permanente Científico (CPC: 4/17; 23,53%). Por el contrario, el cargo de secretaría fue el de mayor participación de mujeres (16/27; 55,55%).
