Abstract (English): The article presents the biography of Portuguese physician António Egas Moniz, known for his contributions to medicine. Moniz invented cerebral radioarteriography and prefrontal leukotomy, and also dedicated himself to politics. Throughout his life, he made important advances in neurology and left a significant legacy in the history of medicine. Leukotomy allowed for the deinstitutionalization of 25% of mentally ill patients, but it was abandoned due to its side effects and the introduction of psychotropic drugs. Moniz received the Nobel Prize in 1949 for his discovery of the therapeutic value of leukotomy in certain psychoses. [Extracted from the article]

Moniz recibió el Premio Nobel en 1949 por su descubrimiento del valor terapéutico de la leucotomía en ciertas psicosis. [Extracted from the article]
