| Abstract (English): |
In the 17th century, uroscopy was represented in many ways through art. While medical masters tried to uncover the causes of disease through macroscopic urine analysis, master painters created works of art that reflected medical knowledge. This interaction between two cultures resulted in realistic and naturalistic art, in which paintings visually depicted medical knowledge, the uncertainty in the face of disease and the customs of that time. This article highlights how the essence of uroscopy as part of that era’s medical practice was captured, and the experience depicted. The article underscores the relationship between uroscopy and 17th century art. Furthermore, it explores some artistic and cultural elements portrayed in paintings of uroscopy during this historical period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |

En el siglo XVII, a través del arte, la uroscopia se representó de múltiples maneras. Mientras los maestros de la medicina intentaban develar las causas de la enfermedad mediante el análisis macroscópico de la orina, los maestros de la pintura creaban obras que reflejaban el saber médico. Esta interacción entre dos culturas resultó en un arte realista y naturalista, donde la pintura representó visualmente el conocimiento médico, la incertidumbre frente a la enfermedad y las costumbres de la época. Este artículo resalta la manera como se capturó la esencia de la uroscopia como parte de la práctica médica de la época y la representación de la experiencia. El artículo destaca la relación entre uroscopia y arte del siglo XVII. Además, explora algunos elementos artísticos y culturales representados en obras sobre la uroscopia en este período histórico.
