Abstract: The article discusses aspects of failure and the poetics of unfinished construction in Northern Siberia. Topics include the anthropology of postsocialism as a distinct problematic as Sovietology gives way to transitology, the elaboration of the work of failure as a regime of truth that signifies otherness, and a depiction of ethnographic context through the Soviet program of noncapitalist development. Other topics include the afterlife of Soviet socialism, and the construction of communism and liberal capitalism.
