| Abstract: | Understanding motivations to begin fostering among diverse foster parents is an important step toward developing eff ective initiatives for recruitment and retention. This qualitative study explored motivations to foster among 38 single foster parents in the United States. Content analysis revealed four overarching themes: (a) personal values/beliefs; (b) connections to others aff ected by foster care; (c) personal- and professional-life experiences; and (d) goals/circumstances related to family-building. Implications for both research and practice with foster parents are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
