Abstract: One of the major factors that defines and constitutes a discipline is its leaders and their classic works. Political science, when contrasted with the other social sciences, seems bereft of such figures. The author tenders three possible explanations of this: (1) a fixation on technique, (2) the absence of an evaluative dimension, and (3) a set of shifting commitments to various paradigms.
