| Abstract: | The article discusses a FIELD investigators report published in the November 26, 2005 edition of "The Lancet," focusing on the efficacy and safety of 200 mg fenofibrate in preventing CVD in patients with type 2 diabetes. The author reports that there was a non-significant 11% reduction in the primary endpoint of coronary heart disease events, and a significant 11% reduction in total CVD events. The methods used to conduct the study are discusses, as are the participants in the study. It is the author's view that the FIELD is an important study because it allows medical professionals to ask whether fibrates could reasonably replace statins as first choice for primary or secondary prevention of CVD. |
