| Abstract (English): | Studies on clinical supervision have primarily been conducted in the United States, Europe, and Asia. In Mexico, there is limited information regarding the processes involved in the formation and identity development of clinical supervisors. Despite its relevance in training family therapists, supervision has not been formally regulated nor fully recognized into academic curricula. This study aimed to explore the processes involved in the construction of supervisory identity from a social constructionist perspective. A qualitative, narrative-based approach was used. Three psychotherapists trained in family therapy and currently practicing as supervisors participated, and their narratives were analyzed. Findings highlight the importance of relational aspects in shaping professional identity. Notably, the supervisor–supervisee (SV–SD) relationship during training emerged as a key factor, often inspiring individuals to become supervisors. Group training settings appeared to facilitate the co-construction of meaning, learning, and reflective processes that influenced how participants chose to "be and act" as supervisors. These spaces also enabled participants to assume the role of supervisor by confronting ethical and self-reflective challenges inherent in the supervisory process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
