| Abstract: | The article comments on two studies that examined the impact of otitis media on language acquisition in children. It notes that each studies has important strengths and weakneses that limit the conclusions. It contends that the most direct impact of otitis media would be on phonologic and morphologic aspects of language development rather than semantics or general cognitive abilitis. It questions the frequency and duration of otitis media episodes in one study. It expresses concern over the use of nonstandardized reading tests in a research context. |
