| Abstract: | The article details a study which investigated the efficacy and safety of human glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analogue liraglutide compared to dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor sitagliptin. The study included patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who have inadequate glycemic control on metformin. It found that liraglutide is more efficient than sitagliptin in terms of lowering HbA1a>. Study authors also found that liraglutide was well tolerated than sitagliptin, and has lower risk for hypoglycemia. They concluded that liraglutide is an effective GLP-1 agent in combination with metformin. |
