| Abstract (English): | This article shows the process of creating new settlements associated with the population process of the sector called the "road" of the municipality of San Andrés de Tumaco, Nariño, in the Colombian Pacific region. Based on information collected through field visits and secondary sources such as associated bibliography and census records of the municipality to 2019, is studied the impact generated by the project of the Nariño railway between 1924 and 1944, its commissioning and the period after the operation of the train. In the context of the 20th century, the railway of Nariño was an opportunity for development focused on the infrastructure, transport, and cargo with regional reach, which failed to consolidate due to its economic failure, which triggered the physical dismantling and erasure of the Turaco's collective memory. | Abstract (Spanish): | El presente artículo muestra el proceso de creación de nuevos asentamientos asociados al proceso de población del sector denominado como "carretera" del municipio de San Andrés de Tumaco, Nariño, en la región pacífica colombiana. A partir de información recolectada a través de visitas de campo y fuentes secundarias como bibliografía asociada y registros de censos poblacionales del municipio hasta el año 2019, se estudia el impacto generado por el proyecto del ferrocarril de Nariño entre 1924 y 1944, su puesta en marcha y el periodo posterior al funcionamiento del tren. En el contexto del siglo xx, el ferrocarril de Nariño fue una oportunidad de desarrollo, enfocado a la infraestructura, transporte y carga de alcance regional, que no logró consolidarse tal fracaso económico desencadenó en el desmantelamiento físico y borramiento de la memoria colectiva tumaqueña.
