| Abstract (English): | Studies about the quality of journalistic information --like the one presented in these pages-- contribute to a reflection about the informative function of the media and make it possible to reveal what values in the news media were taken into account in every journalistic decision during the selection process of the events and the creation of the news. The advantages that citizens and the media can obtain with this kind of analysis of information are the following." a) greater trust and credibility, respectively; b) better access to information sources: not all of them inform the same thing in the same way; c) better quality of life: "quality" information contributes to social development and to democracy. | Abstract (Spanish): | Estudios sobre la calidad de la información periodística --local y nacional en medios de aire y gráficos--, como el que se presenta en estas páginas, contribuyen a reflexionar sobre la función informativa de los medios, y permiten revelar cuáles son los valores noticiosos que se tuvieron en cuenta en cada decisión periodística durante los procesos de selección de los acontecimientos y creación de las noticias. Las ventajas que los ciudadanos y los medios pueden obtener con este tipo de análisis de la información son las siguientes: a) una mayor confianza y credibilidad; b) un mejor acceso a las fuentes de información: no todos informan lo mismo de la misma forma; c) una mejor calidad de vida: la información de "calidad" contribuye al desarrollo social y a la democracia.
