This theory was paradigmatic within the criminologicalstudies, precisely because it has expanded its object, allowing the research focused on the causes of crime, from the perspective of an abnormal or problematic agent and jarring from the majority of the population were replaced by the study of primary, secondary and tertiary criminalization processes involving behaviors and stigmatized individuals. The contribution of the Marxist thought appears in the statement that the tightening of state punishment directs itself to the characteristic of the masses away from the labor market and consumer behaviors. The prison system, in turn, acts as the reproductive system of inequalities in social relations by strengthening the criminal labels of those marginalized, in order to contribute to the maintenance of the structural inequalities of the capitalist society. The paper discusses, in brief, selective actions of the police in Brazil, as well as incarceration rates compared to the rates of unemployment. |
