Description
Summary:The present job deals with the possible construction methods used by the Ancient Egyptians to build the second pyramid at Giza, attributed to King Khafre. Because of its large size, this work presents the same construction problems as those of the pyramid built by King Khafre's father, Cheops (Khufu). Nonetheless, because of its higher elevation, proximity to the quarries located to the south-east of Menkaure and limitation of possible ramps, the obstacles were even greater than those that his predecessor had to overcome. The solution used would be the same one that allowed the construction of the Great Pyramid, in accordance with my mechanical theory [RICART, 1995, p. 223-273], but with the entire system of upper chambers being displaced towards the base. In this manner, the large chamber that we know in the Khafre Pyramid would correspond to the Queen's Chamber in the Cheops Pyramid, and the others corresponding to the Grand Gallery and the King's Chamber would remain hidden in the heart of the construction on the corresponding upper levels.
