children aged 7 to 15, classified in 4 age levels. The results obtained were compared to those of two
control groups of sighted children, one of which was blindfolded. Results show an important delay in
the blind children compared to the non-blindfolded sighted subjects in the tasks involving mental
images of complex static forms, moving objects and transformation of objects. This delay is related to
that observed in the acquisition of concrete operational skills. This slower cognitive development
seems to be due to the sensorial modality used, rather that to possible damage produced by congenital
blindness, since blindfolded sighted children show a similar development profile |
