Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) of microbial origin are polymeric materials due to their characteristics have been reported for biomedical applications, however their production is not economically feasible due to the high cost of production, even culture media for their preparation is a factor that affect in higher quantity than others. In this study the production of PHA was evaluated from Ralstonia eutropha using as a carbon source hydrolyzate rachis of palm (HRP). In the process of obtaining, some variables as a: inoculum concentration, nitrogen source and ratio C/N,  were evaluated, it was looking for improving the biopolymer acumulation. In the extraction stage the use of solvents negatively affecting the possible application of the mate­rial is avoided. Finally, the material was identified by infrared spectroscopy with Fourier Trasnform Infrared Spec­troscopy (FTIR) and thermally characterized by a Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The PHA obtained had characteristics similar to Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) commercial and concluded that the hydrolyzate rachis is a good substrate for the biosynthesis of this biomaterial, which can enhance this product of the Colombian oil palm industry.
