Description
Summary:The removal of toxic compounds has gained importance in the health and environmental field. Treatment methods, obtained from biological systems, to remove toxic compounds have been implemented for being efficient and low cost alternatives for eliminating inorganic pollutants. A literature review about unconventional and conventional systems as well as the different methods implemented in waste-water treatment contaminated with chromium (VI) wasperformed. . The different alternatives offered by academia and industry were evaluated and analyzed in terms of the efficiency in the removal of Chromium. Its advantages and disadvantages were also assessed. The results show that technologies based on biological systems take a leading role today. The most relevant and studied method for removal of hexavalent chromium is the one that uses biodsorbents, given the significant results in removal of heavy metals in a laboratory scale.
