| Summary: | This article presents a critical review that describes the value of agricultural genetic resources in Colombia for preservation as a key tool to handle, manage and sustainable production in Colombia of genetic biodiversity scenarios covering political, legal, technical and possible solutions to preserve genetic agrobiodiversity. In Colombia there are very few state funded institutions who are responsible for dynamic conservation (in situ and ex situ) of genetic resources of the country by the hand with small farmers, as currently the entities in charge of keeping the agrobiodiversity of the country are private initiatives and based only on a few specimens. It is essential that the Colombian Government adopt policies and actions for the conservation of genetic resource that would sustain economically mini local agricultural conservation center to support and promote different methods of conservation and exchange of material on small farmers in each of the departments of Colombia. |
