description Primary energy comes from fossil fuels, such as oil, gas, and coal. However, the reserves of these natural elements are being depleted and their prices are constantly increasing. This has stimulated the search for more efficient and environmentally friendly renewable energy sources. In this sense, with this project it was proposed to promote industry and innovation in La Guajira, as a comprehensive proposal for a development with environmental, social and economic sustainability. The methodology used was qualitative in nature, based on the scope of the concept of bioeconomy and the definition of biorefinery, the identification of potential biorefineries that could contribute to the bioeconomy of the department and the analysis of secondary information, concluding that work should be done on the development of systems of integral and complete use of biorefineries, which include the use of waste and by-products from the rural and industrial sectors.
