Summary:The maritime transport of goods faces significant problems of inefficiency and waste due to the aging of its technological infrastructure and business processes that lack real-time information exchange and effective collaboration. Blockchain disrupts the international shipping of goods as it has the potential to redefine the way digital information is exchanged between stakeholders, thanks to immutability that is absent in other information technology systems. Blockchain technology has the ability to track a wide range of global logistics partners, such as shippers, freight forwarders, carriers, seaport corporations, terminal operators, and customs offices, allowing much more tracking and traceability of goods. thoroughly and, at the same time, provides open access to information related to delivery times; redefines traditional, time consuming and trust-intensive paper documents within maritime logistics. This makes global shipping of goods more efficient and productive. Blockchain is currently the main disruptive factor in the global transport of goods since the invention of the maritime container.
