The necessary transition towards the decarbonization of the economy is being considered at a global level; the warnings about peak oil and the increasing trend towards the use of renewable energies, invite us to consider a new, sustainable and environmentally intelligent energy model. Hence, this paper presents a general analysis of the behavior of the global oil industry with a horizon of 2050 and the possibilities of adopting strategies that facilitate the transition to a new energy model. To understand the diversity and complexity of implicit characters, the interpretive approach is used and hermeneutics as a method; Likewise, the consecutive modalities of exploration-description-explanation are assumed to extract fundamental aspects of sustainability and its integration into the current energy model; and based on various analysis techniques, the adoption of a comprehensive vision, and a process of categorization, explanation, abstraction and systematization, some strategies were formulated to promote the transition towards energy sustainability..
