description Collaborative English learning with free software proposes the use of Moodle for developing English Learning Guides, generating an innovation in the methodological learning strategy to move from traditional forms of presenting academic activities to the use of digital media. The research, which took place during the years 2013 and 2014, was per formed in order to improve English levels, andpromote the use of IC T, through free sof t ware, to develop skills in the Second language. For this purpose, training tools and evaluation on physical media (traditional learning structure) which were subsequently designed and installed in digital media were used; then they were used in Moodle, which is a free and open- source software l earning m anagement system. They were used in the Institution´s computer room.In addition to this, for the development of the prac tical exercises there was a period of awareness among teachers from the systems and English area and the involved apprentices, and likewise, pedagogical elements such as group work and collaborative learning were implemented, aimed at improving in Learners the development of academic ac tivities as a result of a joint ef for t, by working together, in an environment where the collective construction of knowledge, union of knowledge and ef forts prevails. With the use of the free and open-source software learning management system Moodle, as a platform for the management of courses in virtual learning environments, signif icant contributions to the at titudinal and behavioral improvement of apprentices were evidenced; it also provided a dif ferent environment to complement traditional lec tures. Currently, there is a desire to replicate this initiative in the same school, with other areas of knowledge and also to implement the proposal in other institutions in Quindio.
