description The paper presents the procedures and results of a characterization exercise of silk yarn and fabric in its natural state, similar supplies to fibers with sericin and without sericin in the municipality of Guatica, Risaralda. The process involves the development of laboratory characterization tests under the technical standards ASTM and NTC related with resistance to rupture, resistance to tension, elongation, tearing, pilling, flammability, and conductivity, among others. The potential of the fiber and its use are analyzed, taking into account the market dynamics of the silk handicrafts produced in Risaralda and the work developed in the Technological Center of Sericulture.
