description The research was conducted at the porcine farm of the SENA Agricultural Center in Buga, located in the municipality of Guadalajara de Buga, a city with an elevation of 950 m. above sea level, a daily average temperature of 25 °C, and 115 km away from Santiago de Cali, the capital city of the Valle del Cauca department. The aim of this research was to determine the optimal weaning age for piglets (Sus scofra domesticus) in the previously mentioned farm under existing environmental conditions, evaluating variables such as daily weigh gain, feed intake, feed conversion and mortality rate. Three different treatments with two repetitions each were performed, with weaning at 21, 28 and 35 days, during a period of 30 days manipulating 60 piglets (landrace x pietrain) in the post-weaning stage.Piglets were supplied with creep feed prepared in the farm according to the nutritional requirements at this stage. An experimental design was used unrestrictedly in a random way and a statistical analysis (Anova) was performed with the Statgraphics program to establish the treatment with best results. A significant difference (P < 0.05) among treatments for the variables feed intake and daily weight gain was found, with piglets led to 30 days in the postweaning stage; a difference in favor of the treatment for weaning at 35 days. For the feed conversion and mortality variables, no significant difference (P > 0.05) among treatments was found. The partial cost analysis estimated losses for treatments at 21 and 28 days, while the treatment at 35 days cost analysis showed the best results.
