The article discusses the establishment of the Thomas E. Prucha Best Student Paper Award, aimed at recognizing outstanding student research in the metalcasting industry. This award, ratified by the American Foundry Society (AFS) Technical Council, will be presented for the first time at the 2027 Metalcasting Congress in Cleveland, Ohio. To qualify, papers must be primarily authored by bachelor's students nearing graduation, presented at AFS events, and published in recent AFS Transactions. The article emphasizes the importance of research and development in undergraduate education, highlighting a unique student research competition that showcases exceptional work in metalcasting and molten metal processing, with winners receiving scholarship funds and publication opportunities in the International Journal of Metalcasting (IJMC).
