Abstract: The article presents an update on U.S. politics as of October 2006. The Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act which allows the combination of funding for the Perkins state grant and Tech-Prep programs was reauthorized by the Congress. President George W. Bush nominated Sharon Hays as associate director for science at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez will lead a review of the measurement of economic innovation.
