Abstract: The author examines the disadvantages of online gaming. According to Selmer Bringsjord, chair of the department of cognitive science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, students that are immersed in virtual worlds lose their ability to think rationally about problems for long periods of time. The author cites Microsoft's Kinect, a system that monitors the bodies of players and interprets their movements. He believes that online gaming may hone the mind but has an atrophic effect on the body.
