Abstract: The article discusses the use of reform pedagogy to improve students' application skills in college remedial mathematics courses. Topics discussed include importance of post-secondary mathematics courses for a large set of academic degrees, use of procedural skills or other techniques to solve real-world problems and role of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics in initiating the current reform mathematics movement.
