Abstract: The article offers the author's insights on the lessons learned from the path to democratic socialism in Latin America. Topics discussed include the promises left by the 21st century socialism of Latin America, aiming to change power relations by building state-supported social missions and mobilizing popular support, the revolutionary social transformation could be triggered by different social groups according to Argentine political theorist Ernesto Laclau, and the threat to democratic procedures and norms due to the commitment to radicalism.
