Abstract: The article discusses practical principles in lesson planning to encourage student investment and address sources of student disengagement. Principles discussed include the importance of building teacher-student and student-student relationships to promote student success, and using concepts and essential questions to create interest in curricular contents. Also mentioned is the value of frequently gauging and responding to student progress to keep them engaged with tasks.
