Abstract: The article discusses the use of classroom debate as a pedagogical technique to examine controversial issues, and offers suggestions for implementing controversial issues discussions in the classroom. It offers three approaches that can cultivate civility. According to the author, the strategies helped students fostering compassion and practice civil disagreement turn into conversation.
