| Abstract (English): | The aim of this study was to understand the various elements underlying the construction of masculinities in a Quilombola community in the semi-arid region of Pernambuco and associated health impacts. We undertook an exploratory qualitative study using in-depth interviews conducted with seven Quilombola men living in the community. The data were analyzed using thematic content analysis, and the results were organized into three core topics that encompass the key characteristics of being a Quilombola man. The reproduction of masculinities in Quilombola territories is a multifaceted process driven by sexist and racist structures, which are two essential elements in the process of understanding these men. The findings reveal an urgent need to expand the scope of men's health in order to reduce health risks and vulnerability in this population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | El objetivo del presente estudio es comprender los diversos elementos de la construcción de las masculinidades en una comunidad quilombola de la región del agreste pernambucano y sus respectivos impactos sobre la salud. La investigación se constituye como un estudio del tipo cualitativo exploratorio en donde se utilizó como elemento de colecta de datos las entrevistas en profundidad con siete hombres quilombolas de una comunidad de la región del agreste pernambucano. El análisis se realizó por medio del análisis temático de contenido y el texto se organizó entres grandes tópicos que señalan características importantes del ser hombre quilombola. La reproducción de las masculinidades en territorios quilombolas muestra un proceso multifacético impulsado por la estructura machista y racista, dos elementos indispensables en el proceso de comprensión de esos hombres. Se denotó la urgencia de la ampliación de acciones de salud del hombre para reducir los riesgos y vulnerabilidades relacionados con las enfermedades de esa población. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Portuguese): | O presente estudo objetiva compreender os diversos elementos da construção das masculinidades em uma comunidade quilombola do agreste pernambucano e seus respectivos impactos na saúde. A pesquisa se constitui em um estudo do tipo qualitativo exploratório, na qual foi utilizado como instrumento de coleta de dados entrevistas em profundidade com sete homens quilombolas de uma comunidade do agreste pernambucano. A análise ocorreu por meio da análise temática de conteúdo, e o texto foi organizado em três grandes tópicos que apontam características importantes do ser homem quilombola. A reprodução das masculinidades em territórios quilombolas representa um processo multifacetado que é impulsionado pelas estruturas machista e racista, dois elementos indispensáveis no processo de compreensão desses homens.
