| Abstract: |
This study explored the understanding of Gender and Development (GAD) and cultural values among undergraduate students in a Davao del Norte college. We surveyed 258 students enrolled in their second semester across all programs, representing a diverse cross-section of the student body. Employing a quantitative correlational design, we investigated the relationship between GAD knowledge and cultural values. The study aimed to identify which aspects of cultural values influenced GAD understanding. Our findings revealed a high level of GAD awareness among participants, consistently demonstrated in their responses. Similarly, participants exhibited high levels of cultural value adherence. Importantly, a significant correlation emerged between GAD knowledge and cultural values. Regression analysis pinpointed three key domains influencing this relationship: knowledge of national GAD mandates and related laws; understanding of gender roles within the context of GAD; and awareness of significant factors impacting GAD. The strong correlation between GAD knowledge and cultural values suggests a significant interplay between these two aspects. The level of both GAD understanding and cultural value adherence seemed to be linked to academic standing. This highlights the importance of considering cultural context when promoting GAD awareness and suggests avenues for future research to delve deeper into the specific dynamics observed.
