Abstract: The article analyzes how the Extended Date/Time Format (EDTF) improves the accuracy and usability of date metadata. Topics include the challenges of inconsistent or ambiguous date metadata; the adoption and impact of EDTF; and findings from a comparative study, showing an increase in EDTF-aligned records since 2015 but a decline in overall date metadata, leading to recommendations for improving metadata quality and interoperability.
