Abstract: This article presents the intersection of state curriculum standards in United States primary and secondary education and the challenges of revising history and social studies standards. The author first examines history curriculum standards and their vulnerability to politicization. Then the author uses the states of Kansas and Maine as examples of standards minimalism that serve as the alternative.
