Abstract: This editorial introduces a special issue focused on addressing gender-based violence in Australian higher education, centered around the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence (the National Code), established by the Australian government in 2025. The National Code mandates higher education providers to implement comprehensive, organization-wide strategies across seven standards, including governance, safe environments, knowledge building, and support services, aiming to improve prevention and response efforts. The issue presents 14 articles offering academic, theoretical, and practical insights into institutional policies, regulatory frameworks, education initiatives, and case management models aligned with the National Code. It highlights the sector’s ongoing commitment to cultural and systemic change, emphasizing collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and evidence-based practices as essential for meaningful progress in eliminating gender-based violence in tertiary settings.
