Abstract: The article focuses on the "Issues in Public Health Genetics" graduate course of the University of Michigan School of Public Health. According to the authors, the course emphasizes the translation of ethical-social issues into substantive policies. They explore the ethical component of the curriculum, as well as the conflicts on individual and collective goods in public health, as it is covered by the course. They also illustrate how treatment of such ethical problems can be integrated into subject-specific discussions. Moreover, they found that a central tension within the course exists between respect for individuals' libertarian interests and the welfare of the population.
