| Abstract: |
The article discusses funding for special collections in libraries. The Indian River County Main Library (IRCML) in Vero Beach, Florida formed the Indian River Archive Center to protect special historical collections in the event of a disaster. The damage caused by hurricanes in Florida in 2004 inspired the Indian River County Historical Society to donate its collections to the library. Pam Cooper, supervisor for the archive center, applied for a grant from the National Endowment to the Humanities (NEH) to convert the library's shelving for the collection. The author details the application process for an NEH preservation assistance grant. The Billerica Public Library in Billerica, Massachusetts received grants to move its historical collection to different facilities. |
