Abstract: This article examines American conservatism in the early part of the 20th century. The author examines the political legacy of Senator Robert La Follette and U.S. President Calvin Coolidge on conservative thought. He argues that despite the changing labels and circumstances, La Follette represents contemporary conservatism better than Coolidge.
