Abstract: The article discusses the impact of the outcomes-based approach to education reform on early childhood teacher educators in the U.S. The authors assert that education should not focus on preparing children to do well on standards-based assessments. They add that educators should assess their purpose as teacher educators and the messages they are giving to their students about their purposes as teachers of young children.
