| Abstract: |
The article discusses the public funding for U.S. libraries and reviews the report "From Awareness to Funding: A Study of Library Support in America," by the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC). It notes that the data analysis collected by National Center for Education Statistics highlights that over a third of U.S. public libraries are operating with declining budgets but enthusiasm of libraries supporters deteriorates when the subject of taxes arises. The author asked Jenny Johnson, OCLC executive director, for her thoughts on the impact of the report. She commented that the report has been positively received as it educates people on library funding and follow-up projects arise as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grants 5 million dollars to develop public awareness campaigns. |
