The article presents a speech by author Rita Williams-Garcia in acceptance of the 2011 Coretta Scott King Author Award for her book "One Crazy Summer" delivered at the American Library Association conference in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 28, 2011. She discussed promoting her novels, exploring alternative careers, and her childhood experiences with the Black Power Movement and the African American revolutionary organization the Black Panther Party. |
