| Abstract: |
The article presents information on several individuals who have made donations to provide financial assistance to libraries in the U.S. and Great Britain. Phoebe Apperson Hearst, mother of publisher William Randolph Hearst, gave approximately 250,000 dollars to build and support libraries in California, South Dakota, Montana, and Washington, D.C. In 2010, Shelby White announced a 3.25 million dollar grant to the Brooklyn Public Library system to create the Leon Levy Information Commons, a modern center for technology at the Central Library. In December 2010, Robert Ellis contributed 25,000 dollars to Henderson Libraries, Nevada, to create a Teen Lounge at the Green Valley Library. |
