This curriculum project in general mathematics was planned with two specific objectives--(1) to study the existing curricula, textbooks, and teaching methods in mathematics in higher secondary schools of various states, and (2) to develop a new curriculum in mathematics in light of the objectives of teaching the subject and to try out the experimental curriculum by adopting suitable techniques of teaching and learning. Given is a brief account, in two sections, of how the project was conducted through various stages. Section I deals with the study of the existing syllabuses, textbooks, and teaching methods in mathematics in higher secondary schools. Section I I deals with the development of the new curriculum as it involves (1) formulation and specifications of objectives, (2) selection and organization of learning materials, (3) developing the learning experiences, and (4) evaluation of the curriculum.
