Abstract: Developers of educational innovations often devote too little time and effort to planning an effective strategy for diffusing their innovation among practicing educators. Particularly important is the task of selecting an appropriate target group for initial introduction of the innovation. A variety of specific diffusion methods may be effective, depending on the nature of the target audience and the specific goal of the diffusion effort. Once a clearly defined goal has been selected and a desired target group for the diffusion effort has been specified, it is possible to methodically and objectively evaluate diffusion methods to identify the most effective strategy. If educational innovators proceed in this manner, their diffusion efforts are likely to yield much more positive results than is currently the case. (Author/JG)
