Abstract: The "Individuals with Disabilities Education Act" (IDEA) requires state education agencies (SEAs) to establish a general supervision system for their local education agencies (LEAs), which includes making LEA determinations. In this resource, the IDEA Data Center (IDC) provides an overview of the annual LEA determinations requirements under IDEA, as well as an analysis of how 43 states are currently conducting these determinations. Examples of data elements used, scoring methods, and criteria for determination categories are also included. This information about real-world LEA determination processes can be a valuable reference for states that are revisiting, reconceptualizing, or refining their own LEA determinations processes with stakeholders.
