| Abstract: | The Education-to-Workforce (E-W) Indicator Framework offers guidance for using data to promote education outcomes and economic security for all. Developed with input from leading experts from over 20 national and community organizations, it highlights key connections needed among systems to support students as they progress from early education through their careers. State agencies require and request data across schools and districts to illuminate student progress. The framework recommends 99 indicators across three domains (outcomes and milestones, E-W system conditions and adjacent system conditions) that, when taken together, tell a comprehensive story of progress and opportunity in states and localities. While collecting data on all 99 indicators is not always feasible of necessary, the full list can help states consider which indicators would answer their most important questions. This tool summarizes the Framework indicators that are most and least commonly collected by states along with reflections on trends in data collection. It also includes considerations for states seeking to modernize or otherwise change their state education data systems. The tool is intended to help state leaders develop a strategic approach to collecting data in their state by determining which data collection goals are feasible and which are aspirational. |
