Abstract: As instructors, it is important to respond to changes in the higher education landscape and continue to create innovative courses to attract students from multiple disciplines. Designing and teaching Medical Spanish has proven to be a fruitful experience for the author as it has challenged her as an instructor to implement practical applications of the target language while simultaneously using cultural products to teach language and culture creatively. Online tools like guided conversations with TalkAbroad and other cultural exercises with a social justice framework offer rich experiences for students to interact meaningfully with language and culture. As educators, incorporating a social justice perspective has value "for its ability to honor the humanity of the whole person, including the individuals within the classroom and the communities about which students are learning. Doing so allows students to grow their capacity to engage with difference in the world" (Goodspeed 2023: 13). This helps teachers to keep in mind that not only are they educating students for careers, but also for life.
