Abstract: A few years into the new millennium, following the disastrous events marking the autumn of its first year, the global media sounds an increasingly urgent alarm about the widening cracks in the global order, describing divisions of race, religion, nation, gender, politics, and worldview that mar the promise (perhaps naive, yet once powerful nonetheless) signified in the term global village.
